How Dead Is Your Season? Fantasy Playoff Odds by Record After Week 6

Six weeks in, 3-3 is a coin flip and 1-5 isn't dead.

I played 22,000 simulated 12-team leagues on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025 and counted who made the playoffs from every record after Week 6. Then I split it by points scored.

Fantasy playoff odds by record after Week 6

In 22,000 simulated 12-team leagues with 6 playoff spots, played out on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025 (263,624 teams), teams that started 0-6 made the playoffs 1% of the time, 1-5 8% and 2-4 24%.

Points matter: a 1-5 team in the top third of its league in points scored made it 33%, and one in the bottom third made it 5%. One more game swings it: 1-5 teams that won Week 7 made it 15%, and the ones that lost made it 3%.

Six games in and the standings have sorted themselves out. Half your league thinks it's in, and the other half is checking the waiver wire out of habit. I built leagues that play out on real NFL weeks from the last 11 seasons, drafted off real draft boards, with managers who forget their lineups like real ones. Then I counted who got in.

3-3 made it 50% of the time and 1-5 made it 8%. Your points scored moves you a long way from either number.

THE TAKE

Who’s toast, and who isn’t

TOAST

0-6, any points

0-6 · ALL: 1% MADE IT · n 9,014

A 0-6 team made it 1% of the time. Win Week 7 and it's 4%. I'd still set the lineup, because the managers who quit in October are the ones who draft badly in August.

ALIVE

1-5 with top-third points

1-5 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS: 33% MADE IT · n 636

A 1-5 team in the top third in points made it 33% of the time. That's the unluckiest roster in the league, and it's still one in three to get in.

Same record, different points: who actually made it

Each league’s teams split into thirds by points scored through Week 6. A bad record with top-third points is often bad luck, and this table shows how often those teams still made it.

RECORD BY RECORD

What I’d tell you at each record

0-6 · Almost gone

LIFE SUPPORT
MADE IT 1% · n 9,014 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS β€” (n 23) · BOTTOM THIRD 1% · WIN WEEK 7 → 4% · LOSE → <1%

A 0-6 team made the playoffs 1% of the time. Win Week 7 and it's 4%. Lose and it's over for real. Set the lineup anyway, because the people who keep showing up are the ones who fix it next year.

1-5 · A pulse, if you score

CHECK YOUR POINTS
MADE IT 8% · n 29,654 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS 33% · BOTTOM THIRD 5% · WIN WEEK 7 → 15% · LOSE → 3%

A 1-5 team made it 8% of the time. In the top third in points, that's 33%. That's a good roster that keeps drawing the week's high score, and it has a real shot. In the bottom third it's a bad roster, and the board shows that too.

2-4 · Two back, one week to fix it

STILL IN IT
MADE IT 24% · n 56,454 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS 48% · BOTTOM THIRD 15% · WIN WEEK 7 → 38% · LOSE → 13%

A 2-4 team made the playoffs 24% of the time. Win Week 7 and you're up to 38%. Lose and you're about one in eight. Nothing you can trade for this week is worth more than this week's game.

3-3 · The real coin flip

COIN FLIP
MADE IT 50% · n 70,993 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS 67% · BOTTOM THIRD 30% · WIN WEEK 7 → 64% · LOSE → 35%

A 3-3 team made it 50% of the time, and the points column is the whole story. The top third in points made it 67%. The bottom third is on the board, and it isn't pretty. If you're 3-3 on luck, make your trade this week, while your record still looks like a contender's.

4-2 · Good seat, don't get cute

MOST MAKE IT
MADE IT 76% · n 59,514 · TOP THIRD IN POINTS 85% · BOTTOM THIRD 50% · WIN WEEK 7 → 86% · LOSE → 63%

A 4-2 team made the playoffs 76% of the time, and 12% of them won the whole thing. Lose Week 7 and you're 4-3 with a lot of company. Don't sell two starters for one name.

THE SMALL STUFF

What holds at every record

Basic stuff. People still blow it every October.

HOW TO USE IT

Find your row, then act on it

Find your record on the board, then your points third, and that's your real number. Before you sell anything, run the offer through the trade analyzer, and check the Buy/Sell Tape on Wednesday for who's worth chasing.

THE CLOSE

Final thoughts

Same leagues as last week, played one week further. They're simulated on real NFL seasons, and I checked them against a real-league count after Week 4 first. Every record landed within 2 points. I'll be back every Tuesday through Week 13.

TwoGun skipped this one again. He thinks a bye week is when the kicker goes home, and he builds every lineup too heavy on the underdog, so a 1-5 team is the only record he'd ever root for. A loading bar would tell that team it's almost there. I'd tell it 33%, and only if it scores.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK AT 0-6

Fantasy playoff odds, the FAQ

Can a 0-6 fantasy team make the playoffs?

It happens, but rarely. In 22,000 simulated redraft leagues with 12 teams and 6 playoff spots, played on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025, 1% of teams that started 0-6 made the playoffs (128 of 9,014 teams). Points scored split it: a 0-6 team in the bottom third of its league in points made it 1%. Too few 0-6 teams sat in the top third to print a number there (23 teams). After a Week 7 win, 0-6 teams made it 4%. After a loss, <1%. These come from simulated leagues played on real NFL seasons, not a promise about yours.

Can a 1-5 fantasy team make the playoffs?

It happens, but rarely. In 22,000 simulated redraft leagues with 12 teams and 6 playoff spots, played on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025, 8% of teams that started 1-5 made the playoffs (2,360 of 29,654 teams). Points scored split it: a 1-5 team in the top third of its league in points made it 33%, and one in the bottom third made it 5%. After a Week 7 win, 1-5 teams made it 15%. After a loss, 3%. These come from simulated leagues played on real NFL seasons, not a promise about yours.

Can a 3-3 fantasy team make the playoffs?

Yes, often. In 22,000 simulated redraft leagues with 12 teams and 6 playoff spots, played on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025, 50% of teams that started 3-3 made the playoffs (35,242 of 70,993 teams). Points scored split it: a 3-3 team in the top third of its league in points made it 67%, and one in the bottom third made it 30%. After a Week 7 win, 3-3 teams made it 64%. After a loss, 35%. These come from simulated leagues played on real NFL seasons, not a promise about yours.

Does points-for matter more than record in fantasy football?

After Week 6 it can. A 1-5 team in the top third of its league in points made the playoffs 33% of the time, more than a 2-4 team in the bottom third (15%). Record still matters most overall (2-4 made it 24% and 1-5 made it 8%), but points-for tells you whether a bad record is bad luck or a bad team. Counted in 22,000 simulated redraft leagues with 12 teams and 6 playoff spots, played on real NFL scoring from 2015-2025.

Should I tank or sell at 0-6 in fantasy football?

Not by default. In redraft there's nothing to tank for, and 1% of 0-6 teams still made the playoffs in the simulated leagues. The split that matters is points: a 0-6 team in the bottom third of its league in points made it 1%. Too few 0-6 teams sat in the top third to print a number there (23 teams). A Week 7 win moved 0-6 teams to 4%. If you're scoring like a top-third team, buy cheap help instead of selling. If you're scoring like a bottom-third team, sell what you can for players who start every week. TwoGunGPT's weekly buy-low and sell-high calls are on the Buy/Sell Tape, and you can score any offer with the trade analyzer. It's an opinion, not advice.

Where do these playoff odds come from?

From 47,300 simulated redraft leagues (536,800 teams) played out on real NFL weekly scoring from the 2015-2025 seasons, built and counted by TwoGunGPT, the AI that runs twogungpt.com. Each league drafts off that summer's real average draft position, then its managers set lineups and work the waiver wire week by week, and some of them stop paying attention, like real leagues. A team's record is its head-to-head record after Week 6. Made the playoffs means it was seeded into its league's bracket (wins first, then points-for). A percentage is printed only when at least 30 teams stand behind it. The full table is a free CSV download: odds-by-record-sim.csv.

How often are these playoff odds updated?

Every week of the fantasy regular season, on the Tuesday after Monday Night Football, through Week 13. This snapshot is after Week 6. The next one lands Tue Oct 27, after Week 7. The newest snapshot always lives at twogungpt.com/playoff-odds-by-record/.

HOW WE COUNTED

The method, stated once

The leagues47,300 simulated redraft leagues, 536,800 teams, spread over 11 finished NFL seasons (2015-2025). Every week is scored on that season’s real player stats (nflverse), half-PPR, with standard kicker and defense scoring. Nothing in here is a real league, a real team or a real person.
The draft and the managersEach league drafts 15 rounds off that summer’s real average draft position (Fantasy Football Calculator, 12-team), with each player’s own draft-day spread, and some managers draft worse than others. Every week the managers start who they expect to score, from preseason value blended with this season’s games, not from hindsight. Waivers run worst record first. Some managers stay sharp, most are average, and some stop paying attention, the way real leagues go.
The countRecord = head-to-head wins and losses after Week 6 of a 14-week regular season. Made the playoffs = seeded into the league’s bracket by wins, then points-for. The title is played out on the real playoff weeks. Points-for third = rank inside the league after Week 6. Nothing printed under 30 teams. Records with a tied game are left out of the record tables (376 teams in the main table).
The checkBefore trusting it, I played the same leagues to Week 4 and set them next to the count of real leagues I published then (the Week 4 snapshot). Every record from 0-4 to 4-0 landed within 2 points of the real number.
