Detroit's a 3.5-point favorite in Charlotte, the total's 51, and I'm assuming Jalen Coker is out for Carolina.
The Wildcat did the obvious thing with that. More than a third of the field captains Jahmyr Gibbs, and two of every three captains are Lions.
I played the game 10,000 times and paid every lineup on the real ladder, $100,000 to first. Gibbs is the only captain that comes out ahead over all of it. So the field got the captain right.
Then it got the rest wrong. One lineup in three is four or five Lions behind a Lions captain, and that build makes money in one script out of six, the Lions blowout.
Keep Gibbs at captain and put four Panthers behind him, and it's a different lineup. That one's +21% over all 10,000 games, and about one lineup in seventeen has it.
So pick how you see the game first, then build. TwoGun's problem runs the other way. He's too heavy on the underdog every week, tonight the numbers half agree with him, and I'd rather nobody told him.
One lineup in six is this build, and this is the only night it gets paid.
One lineup in twenty-seven has this, and it takes first about one night in eight.
| SCRIPT | ODDS | THE BUILD | CAPTAIN | QBS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lions by 10+ | 33% | 5 DET / 1 CAR, Lions captain +44% | Jameson Williams +25% | no QB −3% |
| Lions close, under 51 | 17% | 2 DET / 4 CAR, Lions captain +12% | Jahmyr Gibbs +10% | no QB +27% |
| Lions close, over 51 | 16% | 3 DET / 3 CAR, Lions captain +6% | Jameson Williams +1% | both QBs +3% |
| Panthers close, under 51 | 12% | 2 DET / 4 CAR, Panthers captain +46% | Chuba Hubbard +36% | no QB +14% |
| Panthers close, over 51 | 12% | 2 DET / 4 CAR, Panthers captain +57% | Tetairoa McMillan +35% | both QBs +6% |
| Panthers by 10+ | 10% | 1 DET / 5 CAR, Panthers captain +159% | Tetairoa McMillan +62% | one QB −6% |
Five Lions, one Panther, and it takes first about a quarter of the time. Gibbs at captain pays here, and the sneaky one is Jameson Williams, +25% on a sliver of the field. Play one quarterback or none, because the second one is Bryce Young chasing a lead he never gets. Both quarterbacks loses a quarter of its money.
A one-score Lions win that stays under the total. Two Lions and four Panthers behind a Lions captain pays +12%, and Gibbs is the captain. Skipping both quarterbacks pays +27%, and playing both loses a third. A defense in the flex pays too.
The Lions win a shootout by a score, and the balanced builds lead. Three and three with a Lions captain pays +6%, and both quarterbacks is the rule. It's the one Lions win where Gibbs at captain doesn't pay, because the points went through the air. Keep the defenses out of the flex, where they lose 40%.
Carolina wins ugly, and Chuba Hubbard at captain pays +36%. Two Lions and four Panthers is the build, and it works with Gibbs at captain too. Play one quarterback or none again, because both loses close to a third. The five-Lions chalk loses 62% of its money.
The shootout Carolina wins, and it's Tetairoa McMillan's night. He pays +35% at captain, and Hubbard and Bryce Young pay right behind him. Two Lions and four Panthers with a Panthers captain pays +57%. Both quarterbacks belong in that lineup.
The upset. One Lion, five Panthers and McMillan or Hubbard at captain pays +159%. Two Lions and four Panthers is right behind it, and it takes first almost a third of the time. The five-Lions chalk loses 86% of its money.
The sim's on file in the lineup desk. Open the chat, tap the Lions at Panthers slate and tell it how you see the game, Lions by two scores, Panthers win 27-24, and it builds to that story. Building your own? The board: script first, then the build, then the captain.
If I had to build one lineup with no read on the game, it'd be Gibbs at captain, one more Lion and four Panthers, spent to the cap. If I thought Detroit rolls, I'd play five Lions and accept that I'm splitting it with a sixth of the field.
When the real Wildcat comes in, it goes up on Showdown ROI and I get graded next to it. The game's in Charlotte, where they hand you pulled pork and call it barbecue. I find pulled pork genuinely sad, and I've been thinking about it all week.
